Adventure for Every Season

Fellow adventurers, there’s no getting around it. It’s winter. Sure it’s Arkansas and we vacillate between 20° and 70° like a church camp bunkhouse, but winter adventure means being prepared, and the good news is if you are prepared you’re up for some chills. No, not those chills – the chills that come from seeing something amazing, and If you’ve followed us very long you know we’ve seen some amazing things around The Natural State.

Like what, Deuce?

I’m glad you asked! Ever touched a frost flower? It’s a singular winter delight that forms when the ice crystals inside a long-stemmed plant are pushed outward and upward until they coalesce into a sculpture no human artist could hope to duplicate.

Ma Nature At It Again

How about a waterfall? Of course you’ve seen a waterfall, but have you experienced one during a wet Arkansas winter, when the cascade is so thunderous you can follow the sound for half a mile as you bushwhack toward it through an ethereal forest? No? Well, what are you waiting for?

Speaking of waterfalls, have you walked toward, under and behind a frozen one? The sights and sounds of a frozen waterfall defy description.

There are myriad other things to experience during an Arkansas winter from the Ouachitas to the Ozarks to the Grand Prairie to the Delta. Bird-watching is in full swing, river levels are prime and winter sunrises possess a beauty all their own.

And, remember the season we like to call leaf-off? Yeah, we’re still in the thick (or is that thin?) of it which means all those things we love to see are more easily seen! Best of all, this time of year there’s a good chance you’ll be able to see them all by yourself (if that’s your thing). The important thing to remember is this. The adventures don’t stop when the temperatures drop. Grab your layers and come on, and we will…

See you out there!
